Fayetteville, AR is the largest city in NW Arkansas, and we’re famous for being the home of the University of Arkansas. Our city goes back to 1836, and as we’ve grown, we’ve built numerous landmarks to enhance the local beauty. These are some of our favorites.
4 Must-See Landmarks in and Around Fayetteville, AR
Botanical Garden of the Ozarks
This beautiful garden is divided into 12 themed sections, including native plants of the Ozarks, a Japanese water garden, and a rose garden. There is also a children’s garden to provide a magical experience for the young and young-at-heart.
The garden is a venue for weddings, corporate events, and birthday parties and also the setting for several local events. Each year the Firefly Fling family festival, the International Festival, and others take place here. The garden is located at 4703 N Crossover Rd and is open from 9 am to 5 pm every day.
World Peace Fountain
The sculpture that forms the centerpiece of the fountain is a 10ft wide bronze sphere. The phrase “May Peace Prevail on Earth” is repeated in 100 languages and covers the surface of the sphere. The sculpture is perfectly balanced, and despite its weight, it can easily be spun with a light touch. The fountain itself adds to the calming feel with the sound of the gentle, rhythmic flowing water.
Surrounding the fountain is a delightful garden with benches, and the aura of peace and calmness provides a great location for contemplating. The fountain is situated in the town center at 15 W Mountain St.
Wilson Park
A nearly 23-acre park, Wilson’s proudest feature is undoubted “The Castle”. In the 1980s, the park was expanded and modernized, and a local artist designed 7 concrete artistic features to enhance the mood and beauty of the area. Structure number 7 resembles a castle and is extremely popular with children who climb on it and marvel at the view from the tower.
A small herd of goats lives at the park, and they eat the wild vegetation and always draw visitors’ attention. Other amenities at the park include a swimming pool, a basketball court, tennis courts, and a gazebo. Wilson Park can be found at 675 N Park Ave.
Lake Fayetteville
The lake is surrounded by bike and walking trails, both of which provide superb views of the lake. Fishing is allowed at the lake, and hiking trails venture through the area. Pedal boat and kayak rentals are available at the marina, and you can also rent scooters and bicycles to explore the area.
Sand volleyball courts and disc golf are also available as extra options for fun in the sun. There is an outdoor grill and picnic tables, and if you want food to go there is a food truck on the street side overlooking the lake.
