Have you just noticed any car scratches or dents in your pristine Kia paintwork? Never fear: there are many effective ways to make even a scratch disappear, and even car dents can be fixed without too much trouble. The surest solution is to visit your local Kia dealer, where an experienced technician can promptly have your car looking like new. There are also a few options if you’re keen to attempt a repair job of your own at home.

What Should You Do If Your Kia Gets Scratched or Dented?

Fixing Car Scratches

Cars can get scratched by all kinds of things, including road debris, errant shopping carts, tree branches, playing kids, bumps with other vehicles, and improper washing. The best method of removing a scratch depends on its depth.

Clear-Coat Scratches

The shallowest of scratches only dig into the upper clear coat layer, making them relatively easy to repair. You can often fix these minor scratches by gently buffing them out with a polishing compound.

Base-Coat Scratches

When the base coat of paint has been scraped away, you’ll usually be able to see the darker primer coat underneath. For these medium-level scratches, you might be able to repair them by gently sanding, reapplying the clear coat, and then buffing and waxing the area. But you might also have to apply a new layer of enamel paint before applying the clear coat.

Primer Scratches

Major scratches reach down into the primer and sometimes into the metal beneath. Here, you’ll need to clean and then fill the scratch with a deep scratch filler product before repainting, reapplying the clear coat, buffing, and polishing.

Allow Your Local Kia Dealer to Fix It for You

Take great care when repairing any scratch as an unskilled hand can easily cause further aesthetic damage to the clear coat and paintwork. This is why scratches are usually a job best left to a technician.

Fixing Car Dents

Dents are fortunately less common than scratches. But falling objects, other car doors, accidents in tight parking spots, and fender benders can occasionally happen to the best of drivers.
There are various tricks to removing dents but the most effective is usually with a good dent repair kit. These kits use suction cups to allow you to grip the dented area and heave it outward. Heating the plastic or metal with hot water or even a blow dryer beforehand can often help; the heat loosens the material, encouraging it to pop back out to its original form.
