Kia is dedicated to advancing and expanding its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, ensuring a future that’s not only brighter but also more sustainable.

“Our aim is to protect, prevent, and reduce the negative impact that movement has on nature,” said Kia President and CEO Ho Sung Song. “Every move we make, either big or small, will be made in a more sustainable way through innovation inspired by nature.”

Kia’s plan projects the company to be fully carbon neutral by 2045 and to switch to using only renewable energy worldwide by 2040. Stay tuned to find out more about Kia’s future plans!

Sustainability

Kia is gearing up for an all-electric future. The manufacturer is currently rolling out exciting new electric models like the EV6, Niro EV, and EV9. By 2026, Kia plans to offer 11 different electric cars, with all the European cars to be electric by 2035. The plan is to do the same in other big markets by 2040. Kia’s ultimate goal is to sell EVs worldwide exclusively by 2045.

RE: 100- All-Electric Future

Kia is committed to using only renewable energy for its manufacturing plants, aiming to reach this goal with the RE:100 initiative. By 2030, the company intends to operate all its factory vehicles on electricity. Additionally, Kia plans to set up solar panels at several of its global factories for clean power.

Kia’s CEO recently shared plans to release vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells by 2028. Additionally, Kia aims to incorporate hydrogen technology into its manufacturing process soon.

“To help foster a hydrogen society. We plan to use hydrogen fuel cell power generation technology as an energy source at all of our worksites over the mid-to-long term,” says Ho Sung Song.

Partnerships

Kia is collaborating with environmental protection organizations to improve the world. The two are working together to ensure Kia’s ecological impact is beneficial, aiming for a more sustainable future for everyone.

“We acknowledge that we are part of the problem. But we believe that we can also play a big part in the solution,” states Ho Sung Song.

The Ocean Cleanup

Kia has teamed up with The Ocean Cleanup to fight ocean plastic pollution. Thanks to their Cleanup System002, their efforts successfully removed 55 tons of plastic from the Pacific Ocean in August 2023. Kia plans to recycle this plastic, and some of it will be used in manufacturing upcoming vehicles. Additionally, the project installed devices at river mouths to prevent plastic from reaching the ocean.

Kia is committed to creating a better tomorrow by emphasizing sustainability. Its goal is to power manufacturing and vehicles entirely with electricity or other carbon-neutral methods. Moreover, it actively works with environmental cleanup efforts to ensure a brighter, more eco-friendly future.
